Bill Zimmerman's Weekly Tip - How Often Do You Unplug?

Yes, I'm back - and in one piece, too! Last week I completed one of the most challenging experiences of my life in the mountains between Idaho City and Placerville as one of 34 adults from my church leading 92 youth (ages 12-18) on a pioneer trek reenactment pulling and pushing 300 lb. handcarts over 45 miles of steep logging roads. Sounds fun, huh??

Actually, it was a great experience on many levels; physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. We slept under the stars, saw beautiful scenery, ate good food and had no electronic contact with the broader world for 5 straight days. To be sure, it's impossible to describe the total experience in an email. But, I will say if nothing else, being unplugged for a week was well worth it!

It gave me uninterrupted time to think, do some soul-searching, and share with others. Not that I didn't have some apprehensions about going that long without email and cell phone service. Believe me, it took a leap of faith to leave it all behind for that long! But, boy, I'm glad I did.

I recognize that you as a real estate agent have an even more difficult time carving out "unplugged" time in your life than I do as a lender. But, it's necessary to make the time to do just that. Healthy lifestyles require healthy relationships. Healthy relationships require quantity time (not just quality time...). Do you set aside time every day to live away from electronic interruptions?

If not, I challenge you to take control of your life and figure out what works for you so you can nurture and enjoy those aspects of your life for which you would not take money. Believe me, it's worth it.
